Final Week of Class

Information for the Final Two Weeks of Class

Tuesday, December 2

1.  Go over summary and response; specifically talk about responses with regard to the empathy article

2. Discuss midterm notes from students and talk about a plan for studying for the final exam.

3. Groups of students have 20 minutes to discuss the article for the final exam.  Fill out group participation form and turn it in for Reading Packet # 4.

4.  Finish the discussion of the novel.  Play the last chapters on audio.

5.Write reflection on the semester for Packet # 4.

6. Essay number 3 due on Thursday.  You can also turn it in on Tuesday, Dec 9 during our last class meeting, but I cannot return it to you until after break.

Thursday, December 4

 

  1. Final exam:  2 hours.
  2. Fill out surveys for Reading Packet # 4.
  3. Reading Packet 3 due;

Tuesday, December 9

Final Class Meeting 12-2 pm.

 

We will have our final required class meeting.  This is our scheduled final exam time.  However, I am giving you the final on Thursday, Dec 4 so that I can grade it and return it to you during the last class meeting.

Assignments That Are Due for Your Final Grade

  1. Reading Packet # 3-attach the summaries and responses from the novel and the article on marriage
  2. Packet # 4:  Include your reflective writing piece, your two surveys, your group work evaluation sheet.
  3. Essay # 3
  4. Any outstanding work that you would like to be graded on.  Check Engrade to be sure you have turned everything in.

How do Phoebe’s parents remind Sal of her Pickford grandparents?

Here and There Questions

What does Phoebe tell the young man?

How can we know that Sal’s grandfather isn’t good at fixing cars?

Inside/Outside Questions

Phoebe worried about the lunatic when she answered the door.  Have you ever been afraid to be home alone?

Sal describes what she remembers about the blackberries.  Do you have a memory of food that reminds you of your family?

Outside Questions

How old should children be before they can be safely left home alone?

How would you feel if your wife wants to talk about someone who was in love with her before you married her?

Day One: Class Goals

Our Class Goals

 

  1. Improve our English skills: Studying hard, make friends with speakers of different languages. Taking study classes
  2. To have a better job: Writing resume-improve career skills;
  3. How to write a good paragraph and essays-how to write well:reading and writing a lot of essays; grammar class; grammar in the novel; try to follow the grammar rules; practice spelling and punctuation;
  4. How to write organized essays and paragraphs: make an outline; topic sentence-what jobs do different types of sentences have.
  5. Learn more and more vocabulary:READ-context clues
  6. How to write correctly and quickly
  7. Have easier conversations/communicate well with people:speak without being shy…
  8. Get good grades for future career goals
